HERE IS OUR UPDATED LISTING OF HALLOWEEN EVENTS. Have a BLAST! There are some other NON-Halloween events this week up too! Yes, there is a life outside of Halloween, Gracie!
**Thursday, October 29- Sunday, November 1st: Hansel and Gretel from Scotland
The New Victory Theater is having a Scottish Festival and one of the productions they have brought over is Hansel and Gretel, based on an original work by the National Theatre of Scotland (Black Watch). Audiences of 100 at a time take an eerie “promenade” through a New Vic that is transformed from basement to balcony into a haunted forest and other surprising destinations. Playgoers will follow the path of Hansel and Gretel as the pair journeys from their kitschy 1970s inspired home through a spooky forest and into the dangerous clutches of a bald-headed witch who is at once nasty, funny and completely off-her-rocker. Hansel and Gretel features live music – and for a little nostalgia and camp – a few Bay City Rollers’ tunes in the soundtrack. The show received wide acclaim last year when it was the featured holiday show at the Barbican in London. Theater-goers who buy tickets for three or more New Vic shows qualify for free Membership benefits, including 30% savings. To purchase tickets online visit , and to purchase by phone, call . (This got a GREAT review in TONY Kids this week- but the writer did say that it is scary- and like Grimm’s fairy tales).
**Every Friday – Sunday starting October 16th, closing on October 31st, various times: Long Island Fear Fest
What could be spookier than visiting really old historic buildings filled with ghouls and vampires? Visit the Longs Island Fear fest at the historic Old Bethpage Village Fairgrounds. This attraction spans 3 separate 1600+ square foot, very haunted houses. Participants have the option to enter 1, 2, or even all 3 houses where they will attempt to maneuver their way through each of the houses’ 12+ rooms while being taunted and surprised by 35 or more of the scariest characters. Revelers will battle their way though a sinister body bag room, run for their lives in a terrifying monster-themed room, scream for mercy in the “trophy” room and pray for pity as they desperately try to escape several haunting, bloody mazes. Don’t let the fireplaces, book cases or chandeliers fool you! It might look warm and cozy, but expect to spooked beyond your imagination, whenever you least expect it! Zombies abound and creatures of the night lurk in every passageway. The Long Island Fear Fest is located at: Fair Exhibition Building – 1 mile south off/ exit 48 LIE, 1303 Round Swamp Road at Old Bethpage Village Fairgrounds, Old Bethpage, NY 11804. Pricing • 1 or 2 Haunted Houses $12.00 per entry per house • All 3 Haunted Houses $25.00- VIP passes available too if you don’t want to wait in line. Long Island Fear Fest will also be open on Wednesday, October 28th and Thursday, October 29th, from 7PM until 10PM. Visit for additional information or to purchase tickets online.

Admission is $10 per person ($9 members), purchase online at or call . Tickets will also be available at the door.
**Saturday, October 31st: 7-10:30 pm: Village Halloween Parade
This annual tradition is an absolute blast and fun every year that I go. I don’t think Birch is ready for it yet, but some of your kids are! The parade runs straight up 6th Ave from Spring Street to 21st Street. The streets are most crowded between Bleecker and 14th Street. Personally I loved going to the heart of village, no matter how crowded- everyone is so pooped out by the time they get to 21st Street that it seems to have lost its vibrancy.
**Saturday October 31 and Sunday, November 1: various times: Boo at the Zoo with a Haunted Safari Adventure

**Saturday, October 31: 2- 7 pm: The Haunted Walk at Owl’s Head
I love Owl’s Head park. It is huge with fantastic playgrounds and a skateboarder’s park too. This Haunted Walk is free- and good for all ages, except at the top of the hill which is supposed to be scary. The park will be turned into a fairytale forest free face painting, character visits, pumpkin patch and much more. There is also a food court, novelty vendors, pony rides and bouncy rides. The fairytale forest is not at all scary and a fun alternative to trick or treating. This event is really popular: last year they had 10-15,000 people! This year they expect up to 20,000- yikes! Go early as the lines get long very quickly. There are VIP passes for sale, they put you ahead of the line. They are pre sold and ARE NOT SOLD at the event. (only sold until Oct. 29th)

Takes place at Lafayette Ave between Ashland Pl and St. Felix St.
**Saturday, Oct 31st: 5-6:30 pm and late into the eve: Clinton Hill Children’s Halloween Walk and Performance
This is my absolute favorite Halloween event. Great friendly vibe, trick or treating everywhere, performances in front of houses and seeing friends. Head to the Pratt-Clinton Hill Community Garden (corner of DeKalb and Hall) for the beginning of the parade at 4 pm. The Parade Route winds through the neighborhood. Maps to the most generous homes for trick or treating will be provided. Of course, there will be the fantastic performance at 313 Clinton Ave. This house goes above and beyond with some kind of theatrical performance for everyone to see. Last year I got an email from a reader that she and her neighbors have been doing a Halloween table on Bergen Street (between Hoyt & Bond) for the past fifteen plus years. They set up a table outside 167 Bergen, and distribute home-baked cupcakes, hot & cold cider, candy, apples, and good cheer. Last year they had more than 200 children stop by!!! The whole block turns out to sit on their front stoops and pass out treats, and to socialize with each other. I am publishing this with the hope that this will still hold true this year!

**Saturday, October 31st: 12-6 pm: Kitchen Witch and DutchTub
What? Yes, this listing sounds particularily strange when I write the “headline”, but it seems pretty cool. The Kitchen Witch (mom owned and operated) will be doing a treats and tidbits concession stand at Jungle (also mom owned and operated) in Williamsburg at 61 Kent btw 10th and 11th on Halloween Day. Autumn inspired sweets and savories in a gorgeous garden setting & there will be some magic potions-a-brewing too, wink wink! We were going to do a fire pit and fire-up the Dutchtub, but it might get up to 70 so make it a skimpy, water-proof costume either way! A great way to start off your Saturday Halloween Itinerary! (P.S.- we got our pumpkins here and loved the setting. Super sweet and mellow and fun for the kids to wander around in- but watch out for the gravel and non-walkers. I don’t think crawlers will be happy here).
